Don’t Feel Like a Heel Because of Plantar Foot Pain

If you have plantar foot pain then you know it can be very uncomfortable. The area of pain is in the front of the heel around the arch area. The area can swell, turn red or become inflamed. You probably have a hard time walking and an even harder time walking when you first wake in the morning. The pain usually gradually goes away as you walk on it throughout the day.

Who gets plantar foot pain? Well, anyone can suffer from this condition. A lot of runners get plantar foot pain. Stress from a lot of exercise and too much pressure cause this pain also. A lot of weight can also case the pain. Pregnant women and people who weigh a lot also get plantar feet pain. The extra weight puts pressure on the plantar fascia. Basically, anyone who is active or heavy can get plantar foot pain.

When you have plantar foot pain you should look on the Internet for help. There are a lot of great articles that can help you learn more about it and how it occurs. The Internet can also give you some great ideas on how to alleviate plantar foot pain. Make sure, though, that when you are getting treatment advice on the Internet that the advice is reputable. This is really important. You want to make sure that you are following good advice.

If you want some help for your plantar foot pain then you should make sure you have very good arch support. Trying to use good arch support inserts can help. Stretching the calf can also help alleviate pain. Some specific stretching exercises recommended by your doctor or that you find online can also help. These suggestions are great to try first because they often times work the best and the quickest.

There are other things that the doctors suggest for plantar foot pain. One of these is ice therapy. Message the foot with ice where the pain is. Another suggestion is that if you do any activity such a running you should stop and do swimming or something with less impact instead. Changing your shoes will often help, too. Get shoes that are softer and have higher arch support. You doctor might also suggest anti-inflammatory drugs and even physical therapy. Taping your heel can also alleviate the pain. Your doctor can also give you a cortisone shot to stop the swelling and inflammation. Using these methods should help your pain go away in weeks to months. If the pain does not go away then you should see your doctor again.

What if these suggestions do not work? You do not want to be in pain forever. If these methods fail then your doctor can help you with a heel splint that you can wear during the night. When this does not work, the last step is that your doctor can suggest surgery. Your doctor will want to try every other option before surgery, though.
